Description
REAR (near mini golf): ONE London Plane (T174)(ht:approx.20m) FELL and replace. Reason: basal fungal brackets, declining physiological condition (loss of fine twigs, large areas of bark loss on upper branches seen from disabled parking area), resistograph results show very low resistance in the low stem holding wood hugely increasing the likelihood of failure; given the size of the tree, the proximity to the mini golf course, on higher ground than adjacent disabled parking area, the combination of the compromised strength and high footfall mean the tree must be removed to prevent health & safety issues in the future; a native species tree is proposed to be planted as a replacement.Informative A: the proposed replacement tree planting is hugely appreciated to maintain the treed setting and amenity of the Horniman Gardens. In view of the specimen trees and arboretum character of the gardens, a large canopy replacement tree is suggested with species such as: hornbeam, oak, wild service tree, London plane, cut leaved beech, Indian horse chestnut, wingnut, Japanese pagoda tree, golden rain tree.Informative B: where possible please continue to retain safe standing dead timber or create habitat wood piles on site and lay cut branches between stakes as a linear 'dead hedge' for wildlife and biodiversity.
