Description

This LBC application is for restoration work to the Grade II listed bronze plaque over the entrance doors to the Grade II listed Gladstone Theatre in the Port Sunlight Conservation Area. The proposed works are: gentle cleaning; removing corrosion and repatination of the plaque to match the current bronze brown colour finish. An ICON accredited metals conservator has determined that the plaque needs to be removed for this work to take place and to address any deteriorated conditions or failed installation details for the timber framework behind it. If necessary (condition will only be evident once the plaque is removed), the wooden frame and backing board will be repaired or, if more than 3/5th beyond repair, replaced in kind (material and ornamental details replicated). Once restored and the supporting timber repaired or replaced, the plaque will be reinstalled with brass or bronze dome-headed fixings.
