Application Details
Description
T1: Horse Chestnut- Permission to fell to ground level. The tree has recently lost a large part of one of the main stems due to severe decay, resulting in partial failure onto the road and footpath. This stem has now been heavily reduced to reduce the risk on the remainder of the stem failing as well (completed under a 5 day notice). After a climbing inspection, it has been found that there are a number of old pruning wounds which have decayed a substantial distance back into the main stems, thus leaving structural compromise at various heights on both stems below the first set of unions. There is a large amount of included park on the union which leans heavily toward Pilgrims school which given the weight in the stem, poses a possible risk of failure onto the wall and building. Cable bracing is currently installed in the tree, and is incredibly tight, even after the substantial amount of weight that has been removed on the compromised stem. There is a huge amount of footfall and vehicular usage directly under the tree, as well as within the garden on the opposite side of the wall, providing a large number of high value targets beneath the tree. If the tree were to be heavily reduced, it would have very low amenity value for the area, hence the preferred option to remove and re-plant with a new tree.
