T1 Plane Tree - Reduce tree by approximately 50% to create a pollard that can be pruned on a 5 year cycle.The tree is very vigorous and the roots have lifted the surrounding paving slabs and steps which are now a major health & safety concern to all using the busy area. The tree has been regularly pruned to try to maintain it and keep it at a reasonable size but it needs more radical pruning. The Plane trees in Tower Street were heavily reduced a couple of years ago (not particularly well) and have subsequently regenerated to form a new crown, which have unfortunately not been maintained. The owner of the Plane tree at Walcote Place is keen that the tree should be reduced & maintained for its future enjoyment & longevity & so that it does not present a health & safety risk to those using the area. The tree has been reduced in 2019, 2021, 2024 but grows back very quickly due to its vigour. The most sensible solution would be a heavy reduction/pollard as done in London Boroughs in order to ensure the retention of the trees at a sensible size.
