Southern Water is planning some work to facilitate some improvements to a covered reservoir at Yew Hill WSR - Winchester, Hampshire, SO224JT to improve resilience of water supply in the local area. These works are permitted development. The aerial photograph below shows approximate areas of hedgerow which will require removal to complete these works. The sections of hedgerow need removing so we can access the sides of the reservoir during construction. I can confirm that this hedgerow along the western side of the covered reservoir enclosure is not important from an archaeological perspective under the regulations. It only appears on maps between 1932 and 1964. An ecologist has also been to site and confirmed it is species poor so would not be an important hedgerow from an ecological perspective either. The most northerly section is very fragmented and mainly sporadic trees and scrub along a fence line. Could you advise if a Hedgerow Removal Notice would be required for these works? If you can let me know as soon as possible that would be appreciated. The works are provisionally planned in to start this Summer. If you need any further information just let me know.
