Description
Taxus baccata - Common Yew. Removal of Yew bush. Appleton Manor. Previous owners of the estate planted a Yew in the car parking area outside of the cottages, to hide a manhole cover to the sewer system. Over the years the Yew has been pruned as a bush on a yearly basis, but now it has outgrown its location and it is becoming increasingly difficult to access the aging pipework beneath the manhole cover. The surveyor working on behalf of the estate of Appleton Manor has recommended that the Yew be removed as the roots are causing problems to the pipes beneath, as well as making access to the pit difficult. As part of renovations to the estate (including the three cottages) it has been recommended that the owners get the sewer pipes repaired as, due to the age of the pipework, blockages have become more frequent over the past two years, requiring call-outs to remedy the problems. The car park is bordered by native hedgerow, and there is plentiful Yew hedging opposite, as well as other bushes and a mature Apple in the cottage gardens.
