Application Details
Description
Yew tree: Adjacent to the shelter at the North Star. The tree is starting to outgrow its current location. The trunk and roots are causing damage to the nearby ground surfaces, with visible cracking in the paving. There have also been reports of the roots blocking surface drains, which has led to localised flooding during heavy rain. There are several old flush cuts on the main trunk, and some stubbed branches. These could become entry points for decay over time. Some of the lower and side branches are rubbing against nearby buildings, including a listed pub and a shelter. This contact is already causing some damage, which is a concern given the heritage status of the pub. In order to mitigate ongoing and potential future impacts on the adjacent listed pub, it is recommended that the existing tree be felled to near ground level. It is further proposed that a more appropriate and sustainable species be replanted approximately 3 metres from the original location, within the adjoining grassed area. This strategy will not only address the current issues but will also contribute positively to the long-term enhancement of canopy cover within the conservation area.
