Application Details
Description
T1. Mature beech tree. Height 7 metres, Crown spread 5 metres. This mature beech tree has several well-established fruiting bodies of the fungus Ganoderma applanatum growing from the base of the trunk, indicating that there is significant decay likely to be present within the trunk of the tree. The tree has lost several branches in the past, and has had further branches removed by the owner. The large tree is extremely dominant and shades the gardens of the three adjacent properties shown on the attached sketch plan. The tree is also within falling distance of these three properties, should there be structural failure due to internal decay. The proposed works are intended to reduce the dominance and shading of the tree, but more importantly to lessen wind resistance within the tree crown, and thereby lessen the likelihood of the tree falling or shedding limbs. Reduce canopy size by a maximum of 25%, thin internal branches by a maximum of 10%. Removing branch ends of around 2 metres in length, leaving pruning cuts of 50mm maximum. Removing whole smaller branches with a diameter of 50mm maximum.
