Description

T1. Over-mature Japanese flowering cherry tree. Height approx 5 metres. Crown spread approx 5 metres. This large and aged tree has been suffering from age-related decline for several years. In previous years work has been carried out by professional arborists in an effort to prolong the safe life of the tree, including reducing the canopy size to reduce weight on the main limbs, and cable bracing the larger limbs of the tree. However, the tree lost a large limb about a month ago due to extensive decay at the branch base, and further inspection revealed larger pockets of decay in several places throughout the crown of the tree. Given that the tree is within falling distance of the adjacent car parking area and other properties, the only sensible course of action is to remove the tree. Fell to ground level. The applicant is happy to replace it with another young tree of a similar species.
