Application Details
Description
T1. Over-mature ash tree. Height approx. 12 metres, crown spread approx. 7 metres. This large old tree is suffering from age-related decline, and shows symptoms of ash dieback disease. It contains a number of cavities which suggest internal decay, and there are a number of dead branches in the crown. The tree overhangs the applicants property and the neighbours garden. The applicant does not want to remove the tree as it has a lot of character and provides a habitat for local wildlife, so the proposed work is aimed at making the tree as safe as possible and less prone to wind damage. Proposed work: Reduce crown size by 20 to 25% to reduce wind resistance while maintaining the most natural shape possible, and remove all significant dead wood. The height and lateral spread of the tree will be reduced by between 1 metre and 3 metres, more from the top and less from the sides, leaving pruning cuts varying between 8 cm and 12 cm.
