Description

T1. Semi-mature hawthorn. 5 metres tall, crown spread 2 metres. This tree is growing directly beneath an electricity supply cable. It was pruned 5 years ago to prevent it from touching and potentially damaging the power cable, but has now regrown to its original proportions. Proposed work: Reduce crown to provide 1 metre of clear space below the power cable, and balance crown shape. Removing branches of 1.5 metres in length, leaving pruning cuts of 20mm max. T2. Mature Himalayan Birch. 5 metres tall, crown spread 3 metres. This tree was reduced in size 5 years ago, but has now regrown to its original proportions. Proposed work: Reduce crown to keep the tree at a manageable size and prevent it from banging against the wall and roof of the garage. Removing branches of 1.5 metres length, leaving pruning cuts of 40mm max. T3. Semi-mature Robinia pseudoacacia. Height 6 metres, crown spread 2 metres. This tree directly overhangs a parked motor home and the applicants garden shed. It frequently drops small dead branches and debris, which is typical of this species and has previously caused minor damage. Proposed work: Carry out a high pollard of the crown at around 5 metres, leaving a framework of short branch stubs of around 50 cm, positioned so that when the tree regrows it will have the most natural shape possible, leaving pruning cuts of around 50mm max. T4. Mature coppiced Hazel, multi-stemmed as is typical with this species. Height 4 metres. Crown spread 3 metres. Proposed work: Reduce height only to around 2.5 metres to keep the tree at a manageable size and prevent it from banging against the adjacent fence in the wind, leaving multiple pruning cuts of around 25 mm.
