Description
EXEMPTION NOTICET1 Horse Chestnut: Fell to near ground level.I am writing to inform you that we intend to remove the tree in question on 6th of January 2026. The horse chestnut has suffered two recent major limb failures within the last few months, which caused damage to property. Inspection of the failed limbs shows extensive internal decay, with the wood at the point of failure being completely rotten. The tree exhibits fungal brackets indicative of significant internal decay.Given the history of failure, the presence of advanced decay, and the proximity of property, the tree presents a foreseeable risk of serious harm. Further limb failure is considered likely and cannot be reliably mitigated through pruning. The local Tree Officer has been consulted and has confirmed that removal is acceptable under the dangerous tree exemption.Replacement tree: The tree is located within a confined raised bed enclosed by a stone wall. Following removal, the stump and associated root plate will occupy the majority of the available space. Stump removal would require significant excavation and disturbance to the surrounding structure and hard landscaping, resulting in disproportionate cost and disruption. For these reasons, on-site replacement planting is not considered practical. The applicant intends to plant shrubs and ornamental plants suitable for the available soil volume around the stump.
