Description
Tree Species: Acer Pseudoplatanus SycamoreReason: The tree has grown very large and is growing dangerously on a steep, unstable bank on the Eastern boundary to the property, bordering the Hotel Balmoral and its guest car park (30+ vehicle capacity), directly above an active pedestrian walkway. An arborist has deemed that the branch union is weak because of regrowth from previous pollarding and is middle aged, and of general poor form and that the bank is unstable. Branches are currently touching neighbouring property's wall, guttering and roof with potential to cause damage and damp. As well as this, the tree poses a significant risk that it will damage the neighbouring property and / or persons beneath it should it fall. The Sycamore on the property is situated on an unstable bank, which has been eroding more and more dramatically overtime, and is exacerbated by heavy rain and storms. Since we filed our previous application (AT/2024/0219), a number of branches fell and the bank collapsed further causing a wall to collapse immediately adjacent to the Sycamore. We have since had to replace an existing garden shed that was adjacent to the sycamore and temporarily reinforce both the bank with scaffolding and reinforce the adjacent walls as they were damaged by the collapse. We recently got a report from a professional building company to analyse the structural integrity of the bank and suggest solutions going forward as well as an arboricultural report about the integrity of the tree. All of which will be attached to this application. Furthermore, we have had a visit from Oliver Bennett, the Senior Tree Officer for Swissco, who suggested that we remove the tree entirely which would help to resolve the issue around stabilising the embankment before any further degradation ensues. We would then like to plant a replacement tree in the garden area to the north of the tree, where it is level and lends itself to planting with a Maidenhair (Ginkgo biloba) which is an u...
