Application Details
Description
Tree: Eriobotrya japonica (Loquat). Mature. Ref no. 42 on plan included within tree report. Further details can be found in the supplied tree report. The tree is diseased and in poor condition.Trunk approx 650mm from building. canopy within 3m of building. Tree work: The tree to be section felled/dismantled and removed from site. (Care must be taken to avoid impact to the adjacent building (and associated ruins) which is Grade 1 listed and a scheduled ancient monument)Its removal has been recommended by the arboriculturalist due to its poor condition. Loquat scab spreads by spores, so any new-planted loquat specimen would be vulnerable to the same disease, given that there will inevitably be old infected leaves and dormant spores in the surrounding soil.Replacement with a matching specimen in the same position would be ill advised as noted above. Replacement planting will be managed by Torre Abbey's head gardener. Another smaller tree, such as an acer, is proposed. It is the intention to maintain the ?exotic? nature of the collection, thus sourcing new plants originating from similar geography as the Loquat. The suggested acer is small, so would not hide the c.1600 window behind, and also comes from China as did the loquat, despite its botanic name. It is the intension that the surrounding flower bed will be replanted following the works.
