Description

The tree in question is a Field Maple, approximately 17 meters high with the base of the trunk approximately 3ft across. The tree is situated in an area tpo (tpo ref 1972.010 (A4 and A3)) at address; 1 Oxlea Close, Torbay, TQ1 2HB.Applying for removing the tree in question. The tree is on a bank, leaning and is hollow with one side open at the base which continues up to approximately 7 meters high with visible decay, cracks going straight through the remaining trunk and visible signs of large areas of bark exclusion in the upper crown as shown in the pictures attached. The base of the tree has only approximately 35% remaining. As previously mentioned, the tree is leaning and has a limb resting on the neighbouring Field maple which I suspect is supporting the tree in question.There is no access for a tracked mewp or a crane to this site which means this tree will need to be climbed and the tree dismantled. There is a footpath directly behind the tree and many smaller shrubs and trees below and in the area. If the tree was to fail it would cause a lot of damage to the understory, shrubs and trees and would be likely to fall or roll onto the footpath. I wanted to get this job done asap to keep the safety aspect of this job high knowing that the extra weight of the sap rising and the leaves would add to the shock on the base while rigging. There are no trees near to rope in an extra line for safety. Seemingly this aspect of a 5 day notice wasn't considered and is not part of the criteria looked at. I would normally consider a monolith but as there are no trees to rope into in the area and with a large limb from this tree which is being supported into the neighbouring tree, on safety grounds the application is to reduce this tree down to 1 meter making it possible to do the final part by felling if space allows.
