Description

Fell beech tree (T1). Located in in Wayside Cottage garden in front of the garage and close to the Pavement of Daddyhole road. The beech tree has a large growth of Fomes Fomentarius on the trunk. Fomes Fomentarius causes wood to rot and become spongy which culminates in the death of the host. Due to the size and location of the tree this instability is a considerable risk to the surrounding area. During the recent months a number of branches have fallen from the tree indicating that the tree is slowly dying, some of these have landed on parked cars, on my garage and one only just missing a pedestrian. The tree has become is oversized for the raised area it is growing on and as if dies it is becoming more likely that the entire tree will fall, creating a substantial danger to life and property. The Beech Tree is growing on a very small raised area held up by a crumbling wall, so the base of the tree does not have a very substantial platform, should the tree fall it is close enough to damage 3 neighbouring properties and my property especially my garage, parked cars or cars driving along Daddyhole Road, which is a busy road, also pedestrians as it is a busy area for pedestrians especially dog walkers heading to Daddyhole Plain. This tree is also less then 3 metres from another tree of equal size which currently is not infected by this fungus but due to the fact that this fungus release spores it could easily become infected and then also pose danger to life and property. The felling of the diseased tree would provide more space for the other Beech tree and help safeguard the other tree from becoming infected. Due to the proximity of property, the road and the neighbouring Beech tree and the fact it is on a raised wall, it would be advantageous not to plant a tree in its place. Not planting a tree would benefit the other Beech tree. The tree is approximately 7 to 8 metres this is a rough approximation as I have no way of measuring it. I have a sketc
