Description
The sycamore tree is one of 3 trees in our garden and all have been covered by a TPO. Out of the three, the sycamore is closest to the house, and we are growing concerned that it could be destabilised by recent and ongoing storms. We have been informed by a qualified arborist that, due to a large cavity in the trunk, the tree has been holding water for many years and gradually rotting inside. This is also indicated by the loosening of the bark which has been gradually falling away for some time. The top branches can be seen to be dying and often fall to the ground even in calm weather. We had a similar problem with an oak tree in the garden some years ago.Whilst we do not propose removing the tree completely, the arborist has suggested removing two thirds of its height to provide good clearance and negate any potential storm damage. This would leave the height at approx 8 metres from ground level, and provide considerable peace of mind whilst keeping the remaining trunk for wildlife, etc. HAR/CA38, TPO 303E.
