Application Details
Description
Flowering cherry (Prunus spp, variety unknown) no 1 on sketch plan, 55 cm diameter at breast height, 5 m high and 8 m crown spread. Probably c 60 years old. This tree has been dying back in the last few years and now has an effective leaf cover of only 20% ie 80% die-back in the crown. This is evident in the photos, taken early August: the tree has lost vigour, is lichen-covered with suspected honey fungus infection. Proposed work is to fell it; grind out the roots; then replace with smallish tree(s) resistant to honey fungus plus shrubs e.g. Arbutus (strawberry tree), Laurus (bay laurel) or Morus (mulberry). Please note that his tree is next to a tall Japanese Cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) of high amenity value. That tree will be better displayed after the work is complete.
