Description
1. limb removal and crown lift of overhanging Sycamore. Reasons - Figures 1-3 show the overhanging branches of a Sycamore tree situated in our neighbours garden to the east of our property. The branches are draping down over our boundary wall and fence and are now within 1m of our house walls and roof. Method - we have been advised by Kate Ashley of Ashley Tree Surveys that it would be better for the health of the tree to take the lower branches off to the trunk rather than just prune them back to our boundary in what is called a "Crown lift". This together with a 20% canopy reduction of the upper branches would achieve a minimisation of the overhanging and overshadowing of our garden area and include branches all around the tree within neighbours garden to maintain a balanced appearance to the tree which should be sufficient to prevent the problem recurring for several years. Our neighbour is aware of our application to you and agreeable to the work if approved. The work would be carried out under the supervision of Ashley Tree Surveys by a qualified tree surgeon appointed by them. 2. Crown lift of Coastal Redwood - reasons - Figures 4-6 show this large mature tree situated in the front garden of our garden area. The lower branches have grown such that they now drape down to below human head height restricting use of the space and risking damage to the branches from normal garden traffic. Unless addressed the issue will become progressively worse. Method - again Ashley Tree Surveys have advised we should request a crown lift repair. In this case of 2m to ensure the lower draping branches are removed which should ensure the issue will not recur for several years. An added benefit of the work would be that the north east side of the tree was affected in the past by the close proximity of overgrown Leyandii and Sycamore (since removed under SODC planning consent P20/S2910/FUL). These overgrown adjacent trees and shrubs restricted the growth of the Redwood s lower branches on that side such that it now looks misshapen at the lower level on that face. By lifting the crown on the other faces the overall balance and look of the tree will be improved. The work will be carried out under the supervision of Ashley Tree Surveys by a qualified tree surgeon appointed by them.
