Description

T1 Sycamore growing on boundary adjacent to house. There is a power line into the adjacent house running through the canopy of the tree. There is a level change. The ground drops away by around 6ft on the other side of the tree. The tree has attained probably 10-15% of its full growth potential, is multi stemmed and is already causing a nuisance with bird faeces from roosting Pigeons. The honeydew which is an excretion from aphids will only increase as time goes forward and the tree will become a significant issue with the neighbours. Reducing the tree isn t really appropriate so I d recommend to monolith the tree to approximately. 8ft above ground level and treat the stems to inhibit regeneration. This will allow the Ivy to grow over and smoother and create habitat as well as a degree of screening in this area. To dismantle to 8ft (2.4m above ground level)and treat to inhibit regeneration. T2 Lime. Tree is Mature. Sections of major deadwood in the canopy. There are BT wires through the canopy and it s immediately adjacent to the road. It has been pruned historically and the pavement has been dug up historically for BT cable of some such and there s a degree of distortion resulting from root growth. Drain cover/inspection cover, very close to base of the tree which is old and whether it s still live is debatable. There appears to be what looks like vent which has been consumed by the tree but still visible. There s a large cavity behind the metal that s quite extensive and it s difficult to know if it has opened up due to soil wash out or a dysfunction within the tree. There is a large stabilising buttress root, towards the playground, still developing because of the incremental growth evidenced by the discolouration on the leading edge of the buttress. The tree has a lean towards the road and the adjacent properties. Further investigation of the base of the tree on the footpath side is warranted but is currently obscured by epicormic growth. Epicormic growth is emanating out over the road, the playground and the footpath. No evidence of pathogens. Recommendations are to remove epicormic growth all around up to crown break at approx. 3.5-4m. To provide statutory clearances over road (5.2m) and footpath (2.5m). Remove any sections of major deadwood greater than 75mm in diameter. Also conduct a climbing survey to assess any potential weak points and discuss these at the time of the works.
