Description
G1 Five Ash trees at lower-mid section of embankment area at rear of No.8-11 Ballast Close, cut to high stumps. Following on from recent failures of Ash trees in this area (two in last 24 months and one large Apple tree) I am proposing to prune these five trees to coppice stools. Trees has various issues in relation to their health and integrity, ash dieback as can be seen in photos provided, structural weakness generally caused by decay in areas of damage caused by neighbouring falling trees or crossing/rubbing branches, leggy, stems being more prone to fracture under wind loading and lastly soil conditions. There are three main factors here, the slope itself, burrowing mammals, soil structure, (site was and is still a tip). The soil structure and cohesion is poor with a wide variety of objects discarded on the slope for many years. It is felt that hard pruning of the trees in this way will retain a functioning root system (to aid soil stability,) without the risk of further collapse, these trees are in striking distance of properties.
