Description

The tree is a very large oak tree located in my relatively small back garden, and in close proximity to my house. The canopy covers over 50% of my garden, and a proportion of each of my immediate neighbour's gardens. The size of the canopy means that much of my garden is in shade - especially in Spring and Summer, and this extends to each of my neighbour's gardens too. It also means that my living room, where I and my husband spend most of the day, is also in shade, and this makes it dark and cold. Additionally, the tree often sheds a great many acorns, leaves and branches in the autumn, and these are widely distributed between mine and my neighbour's gardens, making paths and patios slippery when wet and necessitating very frequent clearance of debris. A previous application for reducing the canopy was agreed by the council - I estimate that this was carried out 15+ years ago. I have consulted a qualified and experienced arborist who has advised that thinning the canopy by 25 - 30% would be helpful in reducing the density of the foliage to give more light. Therefore, my application is to request permission for this work to be carried out.
