Description

1 Horse Chestnut: Reduce crown by up to 1.5m from height and lateral spread, pruning back to suitable growth points and previous pruning points where appropriate to maintain natural form. Justification: The tree is exhibiting signs of basal decay associated with Ganoderma, which is known to degrade the structural integrity of the root and buttress system. This condition increases the risk of instability and potential failure. The proposed crown reduction is required to reduce overall sail area and end weight, thereby decreasing mechanical loading on the compromised root system. The works will also improve crown balance and help mitigate the risk of failure while retaining the tree. This is a precautionary safety measure in response to an identified defect, rather than routine maintenance.
