Description
We would like to remove one large limb of a cedar tree, as squirrels have gained access to our roof via these branches and then made a home within our loft. The tree is beautiful and an asset to the local environment and we enjoy it very much, but several branches have been allowed to grow well within 10ft of our roof. While this causes issues with guttering and general drainage for our property this is usually managed well by our maintenance routine. However, recently we have witnessed squirrels accessing the roof via the tree and would like to reduce the branches by 2m in each case to protect the house which dates back to 1878. We have also engaged tradespeople to address the damage done by the squirrels to the roof. In addition to the issues caused by the proximity, the tree is quite old and many branches have previously broken off in unsettled and stormy weather in recent months. Our cars are parked on the driveway, in addition the areas under the branches is frequented by people, including our young children. We have some concerns over the safety of the area, as many of the branches that have broken off would certainly be enough to cause serious injury, and perhaps even fatalities, should a person be hit by a falling branch. We have spoken to the owners of the tree, who are happy for us to carry out and pay the works to the lower branches which are allowing squirrels to access the roof space.
