Description
T1 - Horse Chestnut - Given the trees overall size within what is essentially a small garden in comparison and the close proximity to adjacent properties there is a combined agreement and wanting between #3,4,5 Clare Valley and #3 Tattershall Drive that they wish the tree to be removed on the grounds of its over bearing nature in its environment to allow more light into the properties and gardens and to help alleviate damp and darkness inside the properties. The tree has previously been pollarded and not been shown any attention in the years preceding the works, no aerial inspection has taken place but water staining can been seen around the main pollard point indicating a bowl at the unions and a possible cavity. The bending stresses on a pollarded union are much higher than of a stem formed from sapling growth as they inherently have weaker fibre bonds due to the nature in which they grown from the cut stem and from growth nodes around the cut site. A tree is most within its safety factor when one canopy occupies many branches and one main stem, the more stems there are there is an increased risk of failure due to higher sail age in the canopy and timber weight, this is exaggerated more so if the main stem is beginning to hollow around the union site, with this information and the overall age of the specimen being in the 50-60 year category it is of higher risk of failure due to its structure and age and in the target area poses a hazard to its surroundings if failure occurs.
