Description
Mature Goat Willow in the back garden. This old tree has multiple extended limbs some with pockets of decay. The dimensions are Height 15m and crown radius North 8m, south 6m, west 9m & east 7m. Recommendations Limb to the south has decay cavity with brown dusty brown rot and advantageous roots. There is a split branch at around 5 m from ground level on this limb - tip- reduce the extended limb by approximately 3 m to alternative growth points and remove the split branch. Extended branch to the west - tip-reduce by approximately 3 m to alternative upright growth Extended branch to the north - tip-reduce by approximately 2 m to alternative upright growth. Extended branch to the east tip-reduce by approximately 2m to alternative upright growth. Upper crown - 'Drop crotch' branch tips to alternative branches by around 1.5m This work will reduce the overall self-weight and wind loading on the tree structure. The likelihood is that the tree will respond by producing small epicomic shoots from the main limbs to rejuvenate growth and reduce the risk of limb failure.
