Description

Reordering & upgrade work to reintroduce more community usage of the church, protect its future, enable the building to financially support itself and allow Swafield Village Hall to relocate its activities into the church building. This would include provision of heaters, accessible toilets, a kitchen and a meeting room (for the Parish Council meetings & other meetings).The proposal has already being presented to the Diocese of Norwich Diocesan Advisory Committee who have given their initial positive feedback. A faculty request will be submitted after discussions with NNDC.Discussions are underway to potentially purchase 2 acres of farming land adjacent to the church (to the south) to provide additional parking.The proposal also envisages installing 'slate look' solar panels on the south facing tiled roof over the chancel, along with battery storage, to enable the proposed heating to be almost self-sufficient.The medieval rood screen is historically significant and would ideally be conserved as part of the project. The medieval bells also need to be urgently removed, conserved & rehung.A consultation has been held with the villagers who are keen to protect the building and the views from the village and ensure that it is not boarded up or neglected.
