Description
T1 & T2 - Ash - Fell. These trees have been pollarded many years ago. There is evidence of decay in some of the larger pruning wounds. An old Innonotus Hispidus fungal bracket has been found at the base of tree T1, presumably detached from a wound higher in the crown. Previously, we have managed the regrowth through second order pruning, i.e. only pruning new growth and not re-cutting the pollards. This still results in a congested crown which was expected because of the rapid regrowth characteristic of ash. We believe that these trees were self-set and not deliberately planted and attempts to contain their size is becoming less realistic due to financial cost and limited space. The customer is happy to spend money on trees more suitable to the size of the garden rather than to spend on maintaining the not so suitable ash trees.
