Description

Wessex Water is carrying out temporary emergency investigation and repair work to the geo-textile lining of the aeration ditch at Lychett Minster Water Recycling Centre (WRC). It is believed that the lining material has water underneath it which has caused the lining to balloon to the surface. Investigation works are ongoing to establish the cause of the problem but it is likely that the geo-textile lining will need to be replaced. The aeration ditch will be taken out of action and drained down. In order to drain down the aeration ditch, the WRC flows will be diverted to a temporary treatment facility which will be established on agricultural land adjacent to Lychett Minster WRC. Once the aeration ditch has been drained down work will begin to repair / replace the geotextile It is anticipated that the emergency repairs to the aeration ditch will be completed within 12 months after which the plant and the temporary compound will be removed and the land restored to agriculture. The plant is within a temporary compound area (80m x 60m) with 1.8m security fencing. The proposed development will involve construction of the following: - 3 x Splitters (to divide incoming crude sewage to each of four clarifiers); - 6 x Clarifiers - 10 x Moving Bed Biofilter Reactor (MBBR) - 4 x Diesel Tank - 3 x Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF) - 1 x Effluent Tank - 1 x Sludge Tank - 1 x Return Tank - 2 x Generator - 1800m Heras Fence. Once the repair work is complete, the temporary site will be restored to agricultural land.
