Description
There is large American red oak tree at the front of my property. Over the past 2 years there has been significant die back throughout the tree. The suggested reasons are compaction and climate conditions. The tree sits on a raised bed surrounded on 1 side by a wall and then a tarmac car park which does not belong to us. On our side is a shingle drive in our front garden. There are health and safety issues. People and or vehicles could be injured and or damaged by falling dead branches at any time. Having described the conditions of this tree to one of the arboriculturalists at the RHS garden in Bridgwater they are of the same opinion as our tree surgeon, i.e. the tree is re-adjusting to the water availability. The tree is producing new growth throughout the tree lower down. In order to encourage this is it suggested that the canopy be reduced by 1/3 and all dead wood removed. In doing this work it is hoped that in time the tree will reach an equilibrium thus restoring a beautiful tree that is no longer in decline
