Application Details
Description
Essential roof refurbishment works to Castle Dobbs. The proposed scope includes the careful removal of existing roof tiles across the eastern and southern elevations. Salvageable Welsh slates and clay ridge tiles will be retained and reinstated where possible. Where slates are beyond repair, suitable replacements will be sourced to closely match the original in appearance and material. The roof will be rebuilt using a breathable roofing membrane and new softwood battens in accordance with BS 5534. Roof timbers will be treated as required to address any decay. Leadwork, including flashings and flat roof/parapet linings, will be renewed using traditional detailing in line with BS EN 12588 and best conservation practice. Additional conservation works will include the cleaning, repair, or like-for-like replacement of sandstone elements on the southern elevation, including ashlar quoins, copings, finials, window surrounds, and sills. Existing timber-framed windows and sash casements will be retained and repaired where feasible. Decorative elements such as moulded architraves, consoled cornices, and the portico structure will be preserved in situ, with any intervention undertaken using sympathetic materials and methods.
