Description
There is an existing ironstone quarry face extending to approx. 400m last worked circa 50-70 years ago. We propose to excavate a small 15m section in order to utilise the ironstone for agricultural purposes for sub bases to farm buildings, farm tracks, gateways, and badly eroded livestock drinking points. We propose to work to a depth of circa 4m - the first 1m of top and sub soil will be removed and spread back onto grass fields. Why necessary for agriculture: stone is required for the sub base to an agricultural building recently given approval and also for gateways and farm tracks and badly eroded livestock drinking points. This stone will provide a cost efficient, low carbon and low environmental impact solution negating the need to bring stone in from elsewhere. Why designed for agriculture: this is a very small scale extraction of ironstone which is an ideal sub base stone required for agricultural purposes for building bases and farm tracks
