REAR: ONE Robinia (False Acacia) (T1)(ht.9m) FELL and replace. Reason: health and safety, dieback in the canopy, not a good specimen, the tree was reduced a couple of years ago to promote growth in an effort to arrest decline; this appears to have failed; although a minor crown retrenchment reduction would help keep green cover it will not be a good long-term solution. A native species will be planted as a replacement.Informative A: the proposed replacement tree is hugely appreciated for rear landscape amenity in this part of Blackheath conservation area, for wildlife, wellbeing, and urban forest canopy for environmental benefits to mitigate the effects of climate change.Informative B: suggested replacement species: small leaved lime, oak, sycamore, Robinia, Norway maple, wild cherry, beech, field maple, whitebeam, wild service tree (Sorbus torminalis), hornbeam, Indian horse chestnut, Tulip tree, wingnut, Pride of India/Golden Rain tree (Koelreuteria paniculata), Japanese pagoda tree (Styphnolobium japonicum), Italian alder, Hackberry (Celtis australis), Kentucky Coffee Tree (Gymnocladus dioica).Informative C: support local nature recovery: old, declining, dead trees have more biodiversity benefits than younger trees - please retain safe standing stem timber or leave timber lying on site, create habitat log piles and 'dead hedges' with arisings for wildlife and biodiversity.
