Description

REAR: ONE Hawthorn (T215 on plan)(approx.ht.10m) FELL and replace. Reason: twin stemmed from base, with included bark union, thick ivy stems, decayed leader at 2.5m, upper crown has poor vigour and dieback, proximity to adjacent property 11 Highgate Walk, branch has previously failed. Duty to replace applies - see informatives A,B and replacement planting and maintenance details below.Informative A: the agreed planting of a replacement hawthorn tree is hugely appreciated under the 'Duty to replace applies if a tree in a conservation area is removed because it is dead or presents a risk of serious harm': Tree Preservation Orders and trees in conservation areas, guidance, para 121.Informative B: if possible please retain as a standing monolith, or allow coppice regrowth from the hawthorn stump, as it may be a veteran tree for the species, retain cut timber on site to create habitat log piles, and lay cut branches horizontally between stakes as linear 'dead hedge' for wildlife and biodiversity.
