Description

FRONT (Belmont Hill): ONE Robinia (T4)(ht.8m) FELL to short stump and replace. Reasons: health & safety, due to risk of failure, the Robinia was reduced to Totem ht.8m in 2019-20 (ref DC/19/113713) as heavily ivy clad, significant decay, leaning towards neighbouring property, replacement proposed with a large canopy species near same location by the Belmont Hill entrance to Cedars Close.Informative A: the replacement planting with a large canopy species near the Cedars Close entrance on Belmont Hill is greatly appreciated to maintain the treed landscape character of the site and streetscape amenity of Belmont Hill, species to be selected from: Indian Horse Chestnut, hornbeam, oak, small leaved lime, sycamore, tulip tree, beech, Japanese pagoda tree, wingnut, hop hornbeam. Informative B: the retention of the stump in situ for stag beetle habitat, and timber used on site to create habitat wood piles, and/or linear 'dead hedge' for wildlife and biodiversity is hugely welcomed. Informative C: the college's environmentally sensitive grounds management is hugely appreciated for landscape amenity, urban forest canopy, wildlife habitat, plants for pollinators, improving air quality to mitigate the climate and biodiversity emergencies.
