Application Details
Description
Lombardy Poplar T1 - Fell. Please see below the previous application for tree work, which was carried out following consent. The tree has regrown from the reduction points but only by 1 to 1.5 metres in 4 years. The tree is over mature and now starting to decline, it has also been implicated as a contributory factor in subsidence to a nearby rear extension at 9 St. George's Avenue. The client, because of these factors, has decided that they now wish for the tree to be removed for future safety reasons and the likelihood of a subsidence claim. PREVIOUS APPLICATION FROM SEPTEMBER 2020:- Rear Garden Lombardy Poplar T1 (25M high, 1500mm dia.) - Reduce crown of tree down to 10 metres Reason: Large Lombardy Poplar. IML Microhammer test showed that there was considerable internal decay within the trunk of the tree up to at least 2 metres above ground level. The 'butt rot' is in the region of 60% to 80% of the internal structure of the tree trunk, which puts it in the area of increased risk of failure from fracture due to loss of mechanical strength. The failure would normally be associated with high winds/storms causing increased stress from the sail area of the tree crown, which in the case of this tree is considerable. We would recommend crown reduction by 50% to reduce this risk or complete removal of the tree as the decay will only get worse over time. IML Microhammer test readings: @1100mm agl = 211 m/s @2300mm agl = 149 m/s Normal radial stress sound velocity for sound wood in Black Poplar is 800 to 1200 m/s
