Description
Pre Application Advice - Harwich Haven Authority is proposing a sand/gravel recharge scheme at Trimley.Harwich Haven Authority developed an island at Trimley as part of the Trinity III berth extension in 2003. Over the years, the material that makes up the island has been pushed south towards Berth 7 and flattened such that the island is now teardrop shaped and connected to land at the south end.The Suffolk Wildlife Trust has requested that Harwich Haven Authority add a metre of material onto the island, and dig out the old channel between it and the mainland to make it an island again. This will create a creek to prevent predators accessing the island at low tide, enhancing the areas value to a range of bird species. The material that would be removed to recreate the channel would be spread on the beach area prior to being covered with sand. Consultation has been undertaken with Natural England, and it is supportive of the project.
