EXPP: PROTECTED STRUCTURE: The application seeks a section 5 declaration to confirm that refurbishment and fit-out works to the building (part protected structure), and its temporary use as overnight accommodation for displaced persons or persons seeking international protection, are exempted development in accordance with Class 20F of Schedule 2 Part 1 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 to 2023 and Section 4(1)(h) and Section 57 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended). The temporary use of the building is on behalf of the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth to assist in meeting Ireland's legal obligation to provide accommodation to displaced persons or international protection applicants. The application is submitted in compliance with Condition 5 of Class 20F of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 to 2023, to notify the local authority of the locations where a change of use is taking place prior to the commencement of that change. In addition, it is submitted to provide the necessary confirmation that the works to the protected element of the building do not materially affect its internal or external character. The building requires a package of works to ensure that it meets the requirements of the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth. The Minister's Department has confirmed that the planned renovation works will make the building suitable for its temporary use as accommodation for displaced persons or persons seeking international protection.
