6. The following requirements of the Council’s Conservation Department shall be complied with: k) The Conservation Officer shall be given the opportunity to inspect the original statue with the conservation joiner and conservation architect to agree the appropriate level of conservation to the original ‘midshipman’ statue and to identify an appropriate location for its display within the M&S store on Grafton Street. This should be in a publically accessible location and include appropriate interpretation. A detailed method statement for the conservation of the statue, to include paint analysis, shall be submitted to the Conservation Officer for written approval in advance of the works commencing. A specification for the facsimile replica statue, to include colour scheme and fixing details shall be submitted to the Conservation Officer for written approval in advance of the works commencing. The applicant shall submit details of five recent examples of specialist joinery repair/reinstatement works carried out by the proposed contractor on protected structures of similar architectural significance in Dublin and associated references to ensure that the contractor has the requisite expertise for these works.
