5. New pointing shall be to best conservation practice and in accordance with the Department of Heritage Architectural Heritage Protection Guidelines and the Conservation Advice Series. The applicant shall identify by inspection of the façade and adjoining structures for any remnants of original pointing to inform the appropriate re-pointing method for the building based on remnants observed. The Conservation Section shall be given the opportunity to inspect the brick façades prior to construction works commencing on site in order to identify brick pointing defects at close quarters and to agree a preferred solution to any brick pointing and repairs commencing, which shall be led by best conservation principles. Samples of materials and site exemplars of removal of pointing, raking out, cleaning, patch repairs, re-facing and repointing for the building to be agreed on site with the Conservation Section prior to works commencing and shall be provided for written approval of the Conservation Section in advance of the works commencing. The applicant shall submit details of five recent examples of specialist brick re-pointing works carried out by the proposed contractor on protected structures of similar architectural significance in Dublin and associated references to ensure that the contractor has the requisite expertise for these works. Reason: In order to protect the original fabric, character and integrity of the façade of this Protected Structure.
