Description

Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus). T1 on the attached report from AWA Tree Consultants (their reference, AWA5557). The council reference for the tree is DMBC/TPO/00217 T52.During a site visit in relation to other trees, Daniel Atkinson was very concerned about the health of one of the two large sycamore trees that I had no intention of carrying out any work on. Both trees are protected with a preservation order so he strongly recommended I get a detailed tree inspection survey. Attached is such a report from AWA Tree Consultants.I do appreciate that the conclusion of the report states specific pruning is a possible alternative to felling. However, if I have to do any major work on this tree to make it safe, my preference is definitely to remove the tree completely and plant a replacement for several reasons. 1) Felling the tree is the best way of making sure that the risk of damage or injury caused as a result of a branch or the whole tree falling is eliminated.2) The ongoing costs for a tree inspection survey every 9 months and carrying out any remedial action are not insignificant, nor something I had accounted for when buying the property earlier this year. I would prefer to pay a larger fee now for long term peace of mind. 3) There is still the second sycamore tree just a few meters away (DMBC/TPO/00217 T53) which appears to be in good health. I am very open to suggestions for a replacement variety. Having consulted with different arborists, aspen is high on the list of possible replacements as I'm very fond of strong autumn colours. The criteria I would ideally like to meet includes:- Slow growing- Not sticky or messy (the sycamore does make a mess on the pavement)- Upright habit rather than sprawling- Beneficial to wildlife- Year round interestThe replacement tree would be planted as close to the existing tree as possible. Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information.
