Description

Millburn Road Bridge is a limited headroom structure, with the headroom below the deck to the A2, Millburn Rd, below listed as 4.4m. The bridge has an ongoing history of bridge strikes which have damaged the structural steel elements and the concrete deck. The development is for the installation of full bridge span steel Collision Protection Beams in advance of the bridge on each elevation, to prevent damage to the bridge from future vehicle impacts. The Collision Protection Beams will take the impact loadings instead of the bridge itself. The Collision Protection Beams will be supported on new reinforced concrete abutments, constructed as extensions to the existing bridge abutments.
