Description

(FM1) - 40 cm dbh field maple growing under the canopy of the ancient oak tree. We wish to coppice (FM1). We would like to cut the tree near the base this year, and to cut back any regrowth every 3 to 15 years. This is in order to favour the ancient oak, reducing competition for light and water and allowing sunlight to reach the trunk of the oak to promote epicormic growth, in the process of "halo release". We do not wish to replant, as the site is given over to natural regeneration, and we expect coppice regrowth from (FM1).
