Description

T1 - Twin Stemmed Willow Tree - Fell - The willow tree has experienced a significant structural failure, with approximately half of the crown having failed and detached from the main trunk and fell into the main road with the Police and Aire Valley having to attend to clear it. The remaining section of the tree consists of a partially compromised trunk with limited canopy and no balanced structural support. The failure appears to have originated from a weak union or decay pocket at the point of detachment. The exposed area at the base and within the remaining trunk shows incipient decay and mechanical damage, reducing the structural integrity of the standing section. The loss of a large portion of the crown has unbalanced the tree?s weight distribution, increasing wind load stress on the remaining structure. Willows are known for their brittle wood and rapid decay following wounding, further elevating the risk of secondary failure. The remaining trunk poses a high risk of collapse, particularly during adverse weather or high winds. Retaining it offers limited ecological or aesthetic benefit and presents a potential hazard to nearby property or public access areas. Given the extent of structural compromise, remedial pruning would not provide long-term stability or adequately reduce risk.T2 - Willow Tree - Selective removal of the co dominant stem growing over the road - The Co-dominant stem has formed with a narrow union and included bark, preventing proper wood fusion. This creates a structural faulta common failure point where one stem may split away from the main trunk under load (especially during wind or heavy rain). The stem?s lean toward the road increases its leverage and bending moment on the union, any additional weight (from foliage, rainwater, or wind pressure) further stresses the weak joint, heightening the likelihood of stem failure and posing a hazard to road users. A leaning co-dominant stem is more susceptible torsional stress, particularly i...
