Application Details
Description
Manage the Ash Dieback by removing dead/failing/dangerous trees. If in some areas this creates significant canopy openings then up to 5 coupes will be created (over the 10 years) where extra clearance will be done to enable re-planting with appropriate native* species (e.g. Hornbeam, Alder, Oak, Small-leaved Lime). These areas will be deer fenced. (Three such areas have already been created). Where small gaps in the canopy occur individual protected trees will be planted. Some sections may be deer fenced and natural regeneration attempted.Hazel coppice will be encouraged in some areas where it is dominant; in these areas poor Ash trees will gradually be thinned out as the Hazel coppice is developed. Extra Hazel will be planted where required. Some trees in the previously created (more diverse) coupes will require thinning in the later part of the 10 year period. Some ride maintenance and widening will be done to keep them open and better for wildlife (bats, butterflies etc.) and scallops may be created where the Ash fails.
