Description
T10 - Common Horse Chestnut:Observations: This tree is located behind the bus shelter on Upper Green. It is 19 metres tall and in fair condition. There is a large cavity at 1.8 metres on the East side with bacterial wetwood exuding from 1 metre below the main opening. By probing inside, it was found to have decay extending to at least 600mm above and below the opening, this was also confirmed with a sound hammer around the circumference of the stem. The internal decay of the heartwood is significant within the main stem with an amount of healthy sapwood remaining to offer strength and support. The decay appears to have been present for quite some time due to the reaction growth around the wound and the amount of decay present. There's a small amount of stem thickening around the decayed area as the tree self optimises by laying down extra growth around the weakened area. The canopy leaf density seems a little sparse with leaf size smaller than expected on a fully healthy tree. The structural integrity of the upper canopy appears to be good with no obvious weaknesses. Recommendations:Reduce crown by up to 2 metres and reinspect in 2 years.
